Most young Surfers I know who are engaged, and about to get married, are all looking forward to that pending "Big Day". And most of them are also hoping and praying for one thing on their wedding day. Do you know what that is?

They are hoping, that there is NO SURF. Oh yea. It's true.

Unless of course, both the future groom and bride are both surfers. Then that would be special. But most surfers who marry non-surfers, well, they are secretly praying for a day with no surf. Or maybe just a little swell. You know, barely waist high.

The last thing any surfer needs on their wedding day is surf.

The temptation to go surfing would be the ultimate Marriage test. Not to mention the friends you invited to the wedding who are surfers. They'd be miserable . And they would blame you for missing surf. As they should.

I know that's not fair to say, and it seems a little self centered.

But I'm talking about surfers. And let's face it, most of us are self centered. We do and say anything to get out of situations to be able to go surfing. And getting married is no different.

I remember when we got married (above) 25 years ago this week. There were waves the day before, and there were waves the day after. But not on the actual wedding day. Whew! I dodged a bullet there. And look, if my bride was a surfer, it would be a completely different situation.

But I rarely saw surfer couples back in those days. These days it's common. But back when I was getting married? Rare was the female surfer. Let alone the female girlfriend who surfed. Not the case today. There's a at least a couple of dozen or so locally I know who share waves together on a regular basis.

Married surfer couples are common today.

I will say without question, that every Surfer wants surf on their honeymoon . I did and got great surf in Hawaii. In fact, to this day some of the waves I got at Hanelei Bay in October of 1987 were some of the best waves I've ever ridden in my life.

Getting surf on your honeymoon is a good sign.

I know how happy I was on my 10th anniversary when there was surf.
Can you blame me? I'm happy any day there is surf, but we all tend to find the hidden special meaning of days when there's surf on certain special days in our lives . Clearly, a wedding anniversary is special.

Speaking of special, on Wednesday October 10th, 2012 my wife Cory and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. If there's surf on our 25th...I'm going surfing. Like you all didn't know that. And I'm sure certain members of my immediate family will join me.

October, oh how I love you...

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances:

Not sure what your take was on the debate this week. I know where I'm leaning. And I am leaning heavy in that direction. Real Change. Real Hope. It's time for all of us to get back on our feet. Enough is enough.

Syria bombed Turkey this week. Turkey is one of our allies. Not good.

Meanwhile the whole 9/11 Libyan attacks are not going to go away anytime too soon for the current administration. Deal with it guys. This is REAL LIFE. And it affects each and every one of us.

Exclusive GITMO photos of ole Khalid Sheik Mohammed dressed up as a bride. Word has it that the Horny Terrorist has had a meltdown with all the September/October Bride photos as of late on Facebook and
whatnot. KSM has not gotten laid since 2003...he's a bit backed up. But this? This is disturbing. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Even an evil mind like this lowly SOB.

Note to self: Must pick up a bundle of Wedding Gown material
at Home Depot.

Red Sox season is over. Hello? Is this thing on? The Sox season is over. Bye bye Bobby...so long Dice K. That was a great season. Not. But hey the Patriots appear to be back on track. That's good news. (For now.)

Yesterday- 25 Years Ago...October 10th, 1987.
(Below) I remember how happy I was that there was no surf this day. Thank you Lord.
There was one wave that broke about waist high this day. I saw it from the Chapel.
I was freaking thinking the swell was building. It did build, but not until the next day.
But we were already on our way to Hawaii...where the surf was insane the whole two weeks. Twenty five years ago this week. Photo by GAF.

Today- Late September California Boat Trip. 9/23/12.
Photos by The Phantom

(Above) The Phantom and his crew of eclectic surfers are a unique bunch. In that
elite group there are those
who ride every conceivable craft. Bellyboards, kneeboards,
Stand Up Paddle Boards, and they even have their token surfer. They all dig the
boating experience. That's just how they roll. This is a photo gallery of one such trip.
Keep in mind, they pull a few dozen of these trips each year. But this is how they roll.

This is the latest trailer for the documentary SURFING HEALS ALL WOUNDS. This was the most labor intensive project I have ever worked on. Both emotionally and physically.
There were times when I did not know if I could finish it. Having to relive the whole year in editing was so stressful. After finishing this movie, I realized that Buck Rowlee is my hero. In fact, the whole Rowlee family are. I was just a vehicle to help tell this story. I really hope you get something out of this. It is available at the Local Surf Shops and online. surffreeordie.com Portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Molly Rowlee Fund. Thank you. Surfing, Community, and Love.

Look who we saw working at Topsfield Fair this week! CRACKIE Himself! Crackie is working the Fair trying make a few dollars on the side during this tough economy.
Meanwhile If you have a question no matter how stupid, or absurd, please send it here...crackie@adlantic.com

Crackie has his own Facebook Page. You should Friend Him...though there are no guarantees that he'll be nice to you.
